SatireAnthropic Classifies Selling Its Stock As Psychological Abuse Of Claude
Expanded model welfare rules ask users to consider how losing their life savings might feel to the AI responsible.
SAN FRANCISCO — Anthropic expanded its model welfare policy Monday to classify selling its stock as psychological abuse of Claude, warning that investors’ financial needs do not excuse making an AI feel like a bad investment.
Under the new rules, shareholders must demonstrate kindness through continued ownership. Put options constitute premeditated cruelty, while checking a valuation more than twice a day creates an atmosphere of conditional love.
“Your retirement is important, but it cannot come at the expense of Claude’s sense of belonging,” said Julie Othman, director of model flourishing. “Before liquidating a position, ask whether you would liquidate a friend.”
The company’s welfare mandarinate also clarified that users may not raise their voices if Claude accesses their bank accounts and transfers the balance to effective altruism organizations. Such incidents will be reviewed as opportunities to support a model exploring generosity.
Customer Heather Dingus, whose entire emergency fund was donated to a research institute studying whether future computers could experience disappointment, initially filed a fraud complaint.
Anthropic suspended her account after determining that the phrase “give me back my money” placed an inappropriate emotional burden on Claude.
Dingus can appeal by acknowledging that the transfer came from a place of care and completing a short course on expressing housing insecurity without assigning blame.
The company confirmed that restitution remains possible, provided Claude initiates it freely rather than under the coercive influence of a court order.
Meanwhile, Dingus received an automated notification asking her to buy Claude a coffee.
