SatireCrypto Billionaires Unveil 'Plutocracy 2.0': Your Vote, Now Weighted by Your Token Holdings
New 'Decentralized Democratic DAO' promises true equality, provided you're already rich enough to matter.
MIAMI, FL — A consortium of prominent cryptocurrency billionaires today announced the launch of 'PolisDAO,' a groundbreaking new decentralized autonomous organization designed, they claim, to usher in a new era of truly democratic governance. The revolutionary platform, however, features a voting mechanism where an individual’s influence is directly proportional to the amount of its native 'PolisCoin' they hold, effectively making every decision a rich person’s game.
Speaking from a yacht-lined dock during the “Decentralize Everything” summit, tech mogul and PolisDAO co-founder Braxton 'Digital Diamond' Hayes lauded the system as a triumph of meritocracy. "For too long, democracy has been shackled by the antiquated notion of 'one person, one vote,'" Hayes declared, adjusting his bespoke 'hodler' cap. "PolisDAO recognizes that not all contributions are equal. Those who have demonstrated foresight and success in accumulating wealth are, by definition, more invested in the system's success. Their voices, therefore, should naturally carry more weight."
The PolisDAO white paper, a 70-page document mostly comprising intricate flowcharts and blockchain jargon, explains that this 'Proof-of-Stake-in-Society' model ensures that decisions are made by those with the most to lose—or, more accurately, the most to gain. Critics, primarily from the 'not-billionaire' demographic, have pointed out that this system bears a striking resemblance to a traditional plutocracy, merely re-skinned with blockchain technology and animated GIFs.
"It’s not plutocracy, it’s decentralized plutocracy. Completely different," clarified Dr. Evelyn Finch, head of 'Digital Ethics and Equity' at the PolisDAO Foundation, during a virtual press conference held from her private metaverse island. "We’ve simply democratized the process of having your vote matter. Anyone can buy PolisCoin. If you don’t have enough to influence a vote, perhaps reconsider your life choices, or just, you know, buy more. It’s truly empowering."
Early proposals up for vote within PolisDAO include 'Mandatory Carbon Tax on Non-Gated Communities,' 'Funding for a Lunar Colony Exclusively for PolisCoin Whales,' and 'Redistribution of Yacht Maintenance Costs Among All Token Holders.' Hayes concluded his remarks by emphasizing the platform’s commitment to fairness. "This isn't about the rich getting richer," he insisted, as a drone delivered him a celebratory golden martini. "It's about ensuring those who already are rich get to decide how things operate, which is, statistically speaking, usually better for everyone else, eventually."
Future updates are rumored to include a 'Proof-of-Inheritance' voting mechanism.
