SatireMan Hacks 'Waking Up' App, Replaces "Loving-Kindness" Meditations with Strategic Reconnaissance Briefings
Seeking spiritual enlightenment in a dangerous world, local man opts for tactical awareness over tender affirmations.
PALO ALTO, CA – In a move hailed by some as innovative and by others as deeply concerning, local man and military history buff Chad Hackworth has successfully re-engineered his Waking Up meditation app to replace Sam Harris's occasional "Loving-Kindness" suggestions with bespoke strategic reconnaissance briefings.
Hackworth, 38, claims the modification has significantly enhanced his mental clarity and competitive edge.
"Look, I get it," Hackworth stated, adjusting the collar of his performance-fabric shirt. "Sam Harris is legit, and the guy does jiu-jitsu... But, the traditional 'loving-kindness' guided meditations—wishing myself and others to be 'happy and free from suffering'—it just felt a little… soft. Like I was training for a "Cuddle Party" instead of optimizing my cognitive resources for tactical dominance."
Hackworth, CEO of a military supply company 'Black Dog Nexus Solutions,' explained that his version of mindfulness involves monitoring a local police radio, a daily download of curated geopolitical intelligence, competitive market analysis, and advanced algorithmic threat assessments. "Why visualize a warm, fuzzy light when I can be visualizing the logistical supply chain vulnerabilities of my nearest competitor?" he mused. "That's real presence. That's actual awareness."
The app alteration, which Hackworth refers to as "Iron Enlightenment," involved reverse-engineering the app's script to re-route audio streams from Sam Harris's gentle narration to a secure server hosting reports from various open-source intelligence groups and, reportedly, some less-than-open-source channels.
"My morning ritual now involves centering myself by understanding the current troop movements in the South China Sea, followed by deeply integrating insights into Q3 venture capital trends," Hackworth elaborated, eyes unblinking. "It’s about being present with reality, not just escaping it."
Dr. Beverly Crestwood, a fellow meditator and professor of Cognitive Behavioral Studies at Stanford and an expert on digital well-being, expressed cautious skepticism. "While it's true that mindfulness can take many forms, the core principle often involves cultivating compassion and non-judgmental awareness," Dr. Crestwood explained. "Replacing that with, essentially, a daily dose of high-stress data input seems to fundamentally misunderstand the purpose. It's like replacing a yoga session with extreme sports and claiming you're achieving inner peace through radical core strength."
Hackworth, however, remains undeterred.
"My alpha brain waves are off the charts," he asserted, gesturing vaguely at his temple. "I’m not just 'waking up' anymore; I'm activating." He plans to offer a more modified version of his app concept as a premium subscription service, tentatively titled "Alpha-Awakened Strategic Mind", to soldiers in the field. The first module will reportedly focus on advanced drone footage interpretation, ensuring users can achieve peak awareness even in their sleep.
His next project involves replacing any of the app's "Daily Meditation" suggestions from Sharon Salzberg to a simulated hostile takeover scenario by Michael Easter.
